- Yumepirika was developed by the researchers at Hokkaido prefectural government’s Kamikawa Agricultural Experiment Station in Bippu. Although Hokkaido was a region that many people consider unsuited for rice cultivation due to its cold climate, researchers used cold snow water to prevent the breeding of varmints and minimise use of chemicals in the process. This subsequently led to the grain’s distribution nationwide, followed by receiving the top “Special A” ranking conferred by the Japan Grain Inspection Association.
This rice is very soft, sticky and sweet, thus earning its place as a premium quality rice of Japan. It is recommended to be eaten on its own.
